Stop The Clock finished a well-beaten seventh on her debut at Navan and, along with Claudia Augusta, is also considered in the build up.
Foildubh is a winner over this trip but may have to settle for a supporting roll giving 7lb to Willie Mullins' CALL THE POLICE. A winner on his chasing debut at Gowran Park back in November '11, he went on to finish runner-up in a Grade 1 novice event at Leopardstown before finishing third behind Bobs Worth in the RSA at Cheltenham that very same season and, while he hasn't reached such heights in three starts since, connections will have gleaned much encouragement from his reappearance effort behind Hidden Cyclone. Odonimee completes the shortlist.
CADSPEED would have won with plenty in hand at Clonmel last month if he had not come down at the last and he has a good opportunity to gain compensation this afternoon. Pineau De Re and Lucky Spring would have claims on their best hurdles form but so far their form over larger obstacles is uninspiring. Knocklong is unexposed and it would be no surprise to see him get involved.
WAR CORRESPONDENT is proving frustrating to follow and failed to justify favouritism when second over C&D latest, looking held when making a mistake at the last. The Gigginstown representative probably sets the form standard with that effort nevertheless, and rates the most likely winner. Sophies Shadow, a fair hurdles debut fifth at Clonmel last month, is feared most. Rocknrollrambo and Coolnagorna Giggs debut under Rules, having shown ability between the flags previously, and are others considered.
DAZZLERS DAY is turned out under a penalty after recording a comfortable victory over 2m5f on heavy ground at Limerick last week. If staying this extra furlong, Charles Byrne's charge, who is officially 10lb ahead of the handicapper, should take all of the beating. Jacks Island has been outpaced over shorter recently and looks the main danger now upped in trip. This stiffer test could also unlock some improvement in Bobsthewizard, while Native Court has been in good order between the flags recently and is considered too.
Last year's scorer FIERY OSCAR gets the tentative vote in what looks a fairly moderate event. He has that winning C&D form to his advantage and is only 3lb higher than 12 months ago. Mount Vesuvius was far from disgraced when fourth at Plumpton last time and warrants respect on his first start since leaving Paul Henderson's stable, while Shanroe Society and the first-time blinkered Whatsthecrack Jack are others to note.
Willie Mullins saddled the winner of this contest 12 months ago and he appears to have another cracking chance with BRIAR HILL this time around. The five-year-old has found himself in the care of top connections since landing a point-to-point event at Necarne in May last year and is sure to be fairly wound up for his NH debut today. Cyras Love and In The Gate could be left to fight out the minor honours.
