LiveSport.ie took a look at all the races today with the hope of picking some winners for our readers.
Semi Colon was disappointing at Haydock on her reappearance but the application of blinkers could help to sharpen her up and she merits consideration here. Loose Chips finished third in that Haydock contest and he has each-way claims once more. Umberto D'Olivate and Hired Hand are also respected but a tentative verdict goes the way of SKI SUNDAY. He is beginning to look very nicely handicapped and was not disgraced over 3m at Chepstow last time.
SNAKE EYES made a pleasing debut behind the very useful Clondaw Kaempfer in a Fairyhouse bumper back in April and he can be expected to take all the beating on his hurdling debut this afternoon. Piano Concerto was not disgraced on his hurdling debut at Wincanton last month and he has each-way claims with improvement possible. Star Presenter is worth a market check on his racecourse debut.
Spirit River has fallen twice and finished last on his three runs over fences to date and whilst he should win if at his best and putting in a clear round, it might be worth taking him on. THE DRUIDS NEPHEW was denied by the narrowest of margins on his chasing debut at Ascot over 2m3f but he will appreciate the step up in trip and he looks sure to be thereabouts. So Fine and Barlow are also considered on their respective chasing debuts.
KELLS BELLE rounded off last season with an impressive success in a mares' Listed handicap at Cheltenham and she could prove a tough nut to crack this afternoon, if at the top of her game on her reappearance. The Irish raider Knockfierna, a Grade 2 winner over hurdles last year, has since established herself as a very capable chaser and she looks sure to give a good account back over hurdles today. Kaffie, Baby Shine and Alasi have place claims.
In an open-looking event, a tentative vote goes the way of BALLY LEGEND, who has the benefit of two recent runs under his belt and is expected to build upon his Taunton chasing debut third now switched to handicaps and stepped back up in trip. Turbo Du Ranch, also having his second start over fences and first run in a handicap, merits shortlist inclusion, along with Niceonefrankie, who has claims on the pick of his efforts but is looking to bounce back from a fall at Sandown latest.
ARKOSE has been raised 10lb for his comfortable win over 3m2f at Hereford earlier in the month but remains feasibly treated on the pick of his novice hurdle form, which included a second to Finian's Rainbow at Ascot back in 2010. Tarvini has dropped back down to his last winning mark and would be interesting if the money arrived for him, while an improved showing from Iron Chancellor is possible now he has the benefit of a reappearance run behind him.
Brendan Powell was handed a 14-day ban for taking the wrong course aboard BENNY THE SWINGER - who had been set for an easy victory at Fakenham latest after the jumping the last well in front. Off an unchanged rating, and under Tom Cannon today, Chris Gordon's charge can gain deserved compensation at the expense of penalised Plumpton scorer Petit Ecuyer and handicap debutant Tiradia, who is, incidentally, Brendan Powell's ride in the race.
