Here is our preview of the pick of the action at Galway with our tips in capital letters.
The potent Noel Meade/Paul Carberry combination landed this corresponding maiden 12 months ago with Sam Bass and their once-raced Elijah Gardner is worthy of a place on the shortlist on his hurdling bow. Habesh is another interesting contender on the back of a good Kilbeggan start in this sphere last month but they may all have FISHER (9/2) to beat, with ex-Dandy Nicholls representative likely to know his task for the shrewd Gordon Elliot operation in the first-time tongue tie.
John Queally's FAUSTINA PIUS (5/2) remains a maiden over timber after seven career starts but she gets in under a nice weight for this assignment and it would come as no surprise if the longer trip brought about some improvement. She's expected to be bang there if up to her rating of 113 and, having gone well here on two separate occasions this year, she looks the one to be on. Of the newcomers, keep an eye on North Star Lad if the market speaks in his favour, while Reafadda and Notimetoserve are others to note.
A competitive novice hurdle for the time of year and, having failed to justify cramped odds of 8-15 at Kilbeggan last time, Zuzka is taken on with MISSUNITED (8/11). Michael Winters' Galileo mare backed up a brave performance in a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle on bottomless ground when scoring in a Clonmel Flat handicap on the level latest and she's open to stacks more improvement reverting back to the jumps scene today. The 116-rated Six Stone Ned also makes plenty of appeal and cannot be dismissed.
It could be significant that Barry Geraghty takes over on board Craigs Dream, who is 12 without a win in this sphere, but IONISPHERE may represent some value at a decent price and the longer trip can see him reverse the Naas form with Clancy Strand. Niall Madden's charge failed to follow up and justify favouritism over 2m at Roscommon on easy ground latest, so the gelded son of Vettori can take full advantage of a 7lb weight swing his favour.
Laganbank is likely to attract market support for the champion trainer Willie Mullins but he would have to improve markedly on his exploits here at the Festival in early August when seemingly well beaten before falling four out and, for that reason, BAILY GREEN gets the vote. Mouse Morris' charge has fairly dominated in this grade throughout the summer months and showed his versatility when reverting to timber to land a Kilbeggan handicap latest. The son of King's Theatre has really come of age and is tough to oppose in this sort of form. Lord Ben is another for the shortlist.
A 4lb rise for BALLYGILL GALE's Kilbeggan second latest looks a tad harsh but he's given another chance on favoured ground over this shorter trip and is expected to be ridden prominently in an attempt to gallop them into submission. Bangonform is also respected on his return to fences following two good efforts over timber the last twice, while Bruff is entitled to be thereabouts on a repeat of his Tramore exploits over this trip last time out.
A TWIST OF FATE left a lasting impression when a staying-on second in a Down Royal bumper on his racecourse debut last month and, with improvement expected on the back of that eye-catching opener, he looks to have a promising future ahead of him. Mr Carson has struggled to get competitive in two starts for Willie Mullins but this easier ground may play to his strengths, while Pyrus Gold Wind could go well at rewarding odds.
