Here is our preview of all eight races at Dundalk on Friday night with our tips in capital letters.
FLEET CAPTAIN won over this C&D last time and although an 8lb rise for that success makes life tougher, he can still be expected to play a leading role. Copper Dock has not been at his best of late but can make his presence felt if putting his best foot forward. Mountain Coral's most recent success came in this race last year and he has dropped back to the same mark so is accorded respect, while Tornadodancer may also be worth a second look.
RUMMAGING got off the mark over 6f here last month and there could still be some improvement to come from him. He could prove a tough nut to crack on his first foray into handicap company this evening. La Belle Maison finished runner-up in maiden company over a mile here last time and she is respected on her handicap bow. Lord Kenmare has been knocking on the door of late and he looks sure to be on the premises once more.
Elleval sets the standard on form and he will surely go close if running up to his official rating of 77. However, he might be vulnerable to an improver and WON DIAMOND fits the bill. He shaped nicely on his debut over 7f at Leopardstown last month and is entitled to come on for that experience. Akdam and Collingbourneducis also merit respect and Mississippi John is worth a precautionary market check on his debut.
CONFIDENT CUB has been banging the door hard in this company of late and is very much respected on the back of his C&D performance last time. Jim Bolger's charge failed by a short head last month and, up just 3lb for that display, another big run could be on the cards. John Hagan's Gagnant makes some appeal having also caught the eye over track and trip on his most recent outing, while Dimitar rates best of the rest.
JUMBO STEPS is taken to reverse C&D form with Thebarberkelly at these revised terms. The selection went down by one length to the latter when last seen (jockey put up 1lb overweight) and the threatening son of Footstepsinthesand can benefit from a 5lb weight swing here. Dancingwithangels is up 1lb for her eye-catching exploits over track and trip last month and is another for the shortlist along with Al Mancilia.
There certainly didn't look to be anything wrong with MONA BROWN's attitude when she landed her maiden at the seventh time of asking over 1m here last month and, with this longer trip not a concern, she could follow up on her handicap debut tonight. Shukhov warrants plenty of respect lining up off the same mark as when third over this C&D latest, while Hes Our Music and Castle Guest also have claims.
SHAKE THE BUCKET stepped up on a couple of solid placed efforts when gamely landing what looked a decent handicap over 1m3f here latest (third has won since) and, with that confidence booster under his belt, he is taken to defy a 5lb rise in the weights. Discoteca is better known for his NH exploits these days, but he is a dual Flat scorer and warrants plenty of respect under Davy Russell here, while Prince Of Fashion and Silverlord make up the shortlist.
An open looking maiden to round things off and marginal preference is for Jessica Harrington's POSH FROCK, who has emerged with plenty of credit in finishing fourth over this C&D on her last couple of starts. Benbecula is entitled to strip fitter for his comeback run over 1m here 19 days ago and the way he finished that race off suggests that stepping back up in trip tonight can only help, while Urban Ball and dual bumper scorer Raise The Beat are others to note.
