Here is our preview of all eight races at Dundalk on Friday night with our tips in capital letters.
A moderate event to kick things off and marginal preference is for GLADE APPEAL, who at least showed a liking for this track/surface when fourth on her debut here in May last year. Burn The Boats warrants respect on his first start since fifth in a Naas maiden some 562 days ago, while Diamond Daze and Ahuqd make up the shortlist.
It could pay to side with the in-form CURL CAT. He ran out an impressive winner over this C&D last time and Dylan Robinson's claim tonight cancels out the majority of his 12 rise in the weights. Dimitar has been running consistently well of late and looks sure to be in the shake-up once again, while Edith Cowan and Lord Kenmare also hold claims.
SAMOLLIE left behind several disappointing efforts when striking over track and trip off 3lb lower three weeks ago and from a good draw and with Seamie Heffernan retained in the saddle, another bold bid looks assured. Alvar has a wide berth to overcome but looks to have place claims dropping back from 1m, since he struck off 6lb lower over C&D on his penultimate outing. Roter Baron and Refuse Colette are others capable of finishing in the minor money.
Jimmy Lambe enjoyed a successful afternoon over the jumps at Ayr earlier this week and the good form of his yard bodes well for the chances of Richelieu, who is no stranger to success at this track. Preference, however, is for ARGENTINE who appears to go well when fresh. A winner himself at the Scottish track for Ian Semple in August last year, the nine-year-old is interesting on his first start for Lee Smyth and, while forced to should top weight, he's the one the to beat if fully wound up. Mea Parvitas completes the shortlist.
Benbecula has been knocking on the door and is sure to prove a popular selection following his silver medal over 1m4f here latest, but making more appeal is the progressive KHAREZI. John McConnell's charge got closer to the target when second over this C&D last month, form which has been boosted by the fifth winning since, and there could be more to come from him after only four starts. Busted Tycoon wasn't beaten far on her debut over further here and may be one for the each-way punter with that experience under her belt.
Days Ahead was beaten by little over a length off 1lb lower here last time and has place claims along with Saint By Day, who has held his form together well since scoring off 5lb lower here in September, and Formal Bid, who can be forgiven his latest effort when clipping heels with a rival. However, all are vulnerable to an improver and the vote instead goes to STRAWBERRY FLAVOUR, who shaped with promise in maiden company on her first start for Andrew Oliver last time and is expected to improve now back in handicap company.
SHAKE THE BUCKET is holding his form well at present and is tough to oppose in this sort of mood. The C&D winner has gone close over 1m4f the last twice, but he should fully appreciate dropping back in trip and there is no doubt he's well treated off this mark. Of the others, Shukhov notched over track and trip a fortnight ago (gave the reopposing Silverlord a four-length beating) and, while the latter benefits from an 8lb swing in the weights, Ger Lyons charge is feared most.
Not a race for maximum stakes but BALMONT FLYER represents a rock solid proposition coming into this in such splendid form. The 5-year-old turned in another fine display when chasing home the reopposing Asian Wing around here last month and enjoying an 11lb pull in the weights with that rival tonight, he makes a fair amount of appeal. The latter has won again since so is clearly on the upgrade but the handicapper might just have his measure now while Whatever It Takes needs to bounce back to form.
