Here is our preview of all eight races at Dundalk on Friday night with our tips in capital letters.
SOPHIES ECHO was narrowly denied when runner-up over 7f here last week and providing the drop in trip does not catch her out, she should be on the premises again here. Art Show has solid claims on the form of her C&D third last month and the same comment applies to Like Magic. Mt Weather has each-way claims and Dark Danger might be worth a second glance.
It might be worth taking a chance on THATS A FRET. Liam McAteer's charge is now 4lb lower than when last successful, over this C&D in March last year, and he showed signs of a return to form here last month. Miss Bella was narrowly denied over this C&D last month and she has obvious claims. Sweet Annathea and Light Zabeel could also be on the premises.
Greek Canyon went close off the same mark here last time out, as did Golden Shoe, while Fastidious must be given strong claims racing off a 1lb lower mark than when successful at Gowran when last seen in September. The latter has yet to race on this surface, however, and it could pay to take a chance on HI EMPEROR, who wasn't beaten far over 6f on his Polytrack bow here last month and a return to this trip, over which he has winning form, is sure to help.
MACHETE MARK represents Ger Lyons' first string in this 1m maiden and he can break his duck at the third time of asking. The son of Indian Haven had a number of these behind when third over C&D last month and, with the step up to tonight's trip having clearly squeezed out some improvement, he's worth another look. Ravello Again left a moderate course debut behind when fourth over track and trip most recently, and she's also considered along with Super Sling.
The one who comes out best on these terms is Daisy Mountain and she is respected, but she was not at her best here last month so it might be best to side with MOUNTRATH. A reproduction of his C&D third last time would certainly give him a big chance this evening. La Oliva could get involved if bouncing back to her best and Matjar also merits respect.
Golan Heights arrives with obvious claims on the back of two close-up efforts at Wolverhampton over the extended 1m1f last week, but the value may lie elsewhere. FIRST FRIDAY is the sole C&D winner going to post and is given another chance off a mark of 62 following his course exploits (second) seven days ago. Buccaneer Bob might be of particular interest to each-way players, another who looks well treated off his current mark.
BALMONT FLYER was impressive when striking over this C&D last week and, although a further 8lb rise will make life a lot tougher, the progressive five-year-old is fancied to hit the target again. Trans City is 9lb better off for a 4-length beating that day, when finishing third, and ought to close the gap, while Saint By Day is worthy of consideration following his narrow defeat over the track and trip last Friday.
COTTESLOE won with plenty in hand on his handicap debut over this C&D four weeks ago and, with Nina Carberry booked to ride tonight, he gets the vote to defy a 7lb rise and complete the double. Other last-time-out Flat winner Star Of Aragon looks an obvious danger, especially as he has run well in a couple of big hurdle races since, while Manuka and Regal Warrior are others to note.
