Betfair's big price specialist Tony Calvin has looked through the televised races at Goodwood on Tuesday for more value bets and has come up with a bumper set of selections.

It is always tempting to go in too hard and too often at big meetings - and at a track like Goodwood, where hard-luck stories abound, discipline is often the first casualty.

So it is rather disconcerting to see that I fancy about nine horses, at the prices, on Tuesday!

With that in mind, we will introduce a split-stakes plan in races where I suggest backing two. So 0.5pt on each one, halving your normal stakes, to keep the outlay down.

13:55 - Calaf and Blue Surf

We will attack the card in chronological order, and first up I fancy Calaf to outrun what will be massive odds in the 13:55.

He may go off as the rank outsider here, but I wouldn't be in a rush to dismiss him.

Yes, it is a concern that he doesn't wear the hood in which he won at Haydock and Ayr last autumn - and I am hoping that his main target this week isn't the 1m1f apprentice handicap here on Thursday, for which he is also entered.

But there has been enough promise in his two runs since coming back from hurdles to prompt me to take a chance on him at odds of 34.033/1 or bigger here. He ran a good race when fourth at Chester in May, and probably went for home too soon over an extended 1m3f at Carlisle last time.

I imagine Mickael Barzalona will be told to delay his challenge later here, and the shorter trip will suit.

The return to 1m2f will also suit Blue Surf, and he is a fair bet at 9.417/2 or bigger. In truth, he has proved very disappointing on both starts this season but his form figures at Goodwood read 7-2-3-1, and I suspect that this race has been his target for some time.

14:30 - Reroute (best bet)

Plenty of good judges fancied Reroute to run a big race in the Queen Mary, but she came up short. However, I think compensation awaits in the 14:30, and she is worth an interest at 5.85/1 or bigger.

To be fair, she actually ran a blinder to finish fifth at Ascot considering she was backing up just five days after her impressive maiden win, from a good sort in Royal Mezyan, in a good time at York. Her trainer Ed Walker, who has a 28% strike rate with his juveniles, has his string in great form and he will have freshened Reroute up for this.

She rates as my main fancy of the day.

15:05 - Professor

I want to take on Aljamaaheer under his 4lb penalty, and I think the Richard Hannon pair of Producer and Professor could be the ones to side with in the Lennox Stakes

However, I was expecting bigger than odds of around 5-1 for Producer, so I will make Professor at 12.011/1 or bigger my sole selection. He is very progressive and he made Justineo, a 105-rated horse who won at Newmarket last time, look decidedly second-rate at Salisbury last time.

He ran poorly at this track last September, which is a slight concern, but I don't think Professor should be trading at a double figure price. Connections can be rewarded for biding their time and bypassing the Jersey for this.

15:40 - Duke of Clarence

Ideally, I think Duke Of Clarence is a horse to back in-running in the 15:40,as I think his style of racing will see him trade at bigger than his SP. He took a lot of rousting to get into full stride over course and distance last time.

But he still rates a bet at 10.09/1 or bigger pre-race. He is up 6lb, but he was comfortably on top at the finish last time, in a good time, and I think the strongly-run 1m6f here will suit him. It wouldn't surprise me were Saptapadi bounce back to form, but we will stick to just the one bet.

16:50 - Silverheels and Albaqaa

I will have a split-stakes bet in the 16:50 though. Back Silverheels and Albaqaa at odds or 15.014/1 and 22.021/1 or bigger respectively.

The story with Silverheels is pretty simple. He won well at Ripon last time, is just 3lb higher, and I think there is more to come from him.

And Albaqaa is a straightforward tip too. He has been running well, is on a fair mark, is drawn in five, and overcame being berthed 16 of 16 to win a 1m1f handicap at this meeting two years ago.

Uppercut returned to form in a first-time visor at Epsom last time, and the headgear is kept on. He won this race last season, off just a 3lb lower mark, and I was surprised to see him on offer at 20.019/1. But then I looked at his draw in 19....

17:25 - Cruise ToTheLimit and Valmina

If we are still winner-less by the time we get to the last, then let's hope it does indeed prove lucky as you need all the help going in a 26-runner sprint.

We are backing Valmina and Cruise Tothelimit. They were third and fifth respectively in this contest last season, and both ran their best races for a while last time.

Cruise Tothelimit is trading around the 19.018/1 mark at the time of writing and that looks a touch too big. As does Valmina at 16.015/1.

But, in truth, keep stakes to a minimum here as it's a real crapshoot. And I am very often a crap shot in a 26-runner sprint.
