Paraic Duffy will be looking into the scheduling system for the GAA All-Ireland Championship
Duffy, director general of the GAA, is considering a change to the system as provincial runners-up are often given little time to prepare for their All-Ireland qualifier matches. It is rumoured that a minimum thirteen-day gap in between provincial finals and qualifier matches might be introduced.
Under the current system, it’s often considered a particular disadvantage to lose out in the provincial finals for this very reason. Duffy said, “Clearly there is a difficulty in doing it because it means that you’ve got to finish all your provincial competitions within a two-week gap. It is a negative and you don’t want to make things unfair. I’m not going to make a promise and say we’ll change but I think it’s obvious that the Competitions Control
Committee will look at it for next year”.
