Bayern Munich can put their disappointing defeat to BATE Borisov on matchday two behind them by claiming an important win over Lille in the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday evening.
The shock result on matchday two of the Champions League was when last season's finalists, Bayern Munich, were beaten 3-1 in Belarus by BATE Borisov. The Bundesliga giants had been short priced favourites to win and the result was the definition of 'coupon buster' with bookmakers celebrating huge wins courtesy of the unfancied Belarusians.
That will make many punters balk at the idea of backing Bayern at short odds away from home this week but there shouldn't be any fears of siding with the Germans, who will have learned from their mistakes and should be far too strong for Lille. They may only be 8/15 at
Betfred but that is a price that will plump up a midweek accumulator.
Lille were French champions just two years ago but since then their stock has dropped dramatically. To be fair to manager Rudi Garcia, the club have sold off nearly all the players that contributed to their success with Gervinho, Moussa Sow, Eden Hazard, Adil Rami and Yohan Cabaye all leaving for bigger and better things. Even Joe Cole has returned to Liverpool.
This has resulted in some poor performances from LOSC this season. They lost to BATE and also to Valencia in their opening two Champions League matches and have won just two of their nine Ligue 1 matches so far. It is 13/2 at
Boylesports that they upset the form book and beat Bayern Munich but it's difficult to see how they will trouble the visitors.
The Bavarians warmed up for this fixture by beating Fortuna Dusseldorf 5-0 on Saturday, which was their fifth successive clean sheet in the Bundesliga and also the fifth time in the last six games (the other was the loss to BATE) that Bayern have won by two or more goals. It is 7/5 at
Paddy Power that they win by at least this margin on Tuesday and that looks a very good bet.
