Julia Goerges won two matches on Sunday to claim the WTA Bad Gastein Open title
Goerges was due to face Alize Cornet in the semi-finals on Saturday, but the match was called off due to rain, leaving a double-header in store for the winner.
Goerges won the postponed semi-final, taking victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The speedy manner of the win was ideal given the upcoming final against Timea Bacsinszky. In the final, Bacsinszky was soundly beaten in the first set, but rallied back to lead the second set 4-2. Goerges eventually turned the match back in her favour, and won 6-1, 6-4 for a second time.
Goerges has now won thirteen of her last fourteen matches, having reached the semi-finals in Palermo last week. Goerges proclaimed after the final that she was happy to have won her first title, and revealed that the pleasure of being in a final had helped her to relax during the match.
