Preparations are coming to a head for the Galway Races, with the Tote Galway Plate and the Guinness Galway Hurdle standing out as particular highlights
Majestic Concorde is the current favourite to win the Plate, with Five Dream, Cuan Na Grai, Grand Slam Hero and Nedzers Return also in contention. This steeplechase event is ran over two miles and six furlongs, and carries a prize pot of over 240,000 Euros.
Overturn and Dirar are anticipated to be the main challengers for the Hurdle, with Bahrain Storm, New Phase, Gimlis Rock and Luska Lad also in the running. The Hurdle is ran over two miles, with 220,000 Euros at stake. This race takes place on Ladies Day, and bookies are even taking bets on the predominant colour of the dress worn by the best-dressed lady.
Awards are also on offer for the top flat and top jump jockeys at the festival. Pat Smullen and Fran Berry are amongst the favourites for top flat jockey, whilst Paul Townend and Robbie McNamara are considered the likely contenders for top jump jockey.
