Fermanagh to play against Armagh in round two
Fermanagh will be hosting Armagh on Sunday, when the two sides will meet in the second qualifying round of the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship. Although Fermanagh have the home advantage, there are many who think that Armagh will be too good for the home side, and will make it through to round three.
Fermanagh are competing in this all-Ulster match due to a defeat against Monaghan in their Ulster semi final. Fermanagh were far from impressive against Monaghan, and will need to turn things around dramatically in order to get the better of Armagh. Armagh were worthy winners in the first qualifying round against Donegal, and they have a decent chance of staging a respectable Championship run.
Armagh’s hopes have been buoyed by the recent performances of youngster Jamie Clarke. His scoring tally of 2-02 against Donegal turned plenty of heads, and a continued run of form may help Paddy O’Rourke’s men to offset their injury problems.
Fermanagh have a habit of lifting their game when they play in the qualifier stages, though past glories wont help them on Sunday. This could be a very close match, and the home advantage may be a deciding factor. Nonetheless, a full-strength Armagh would really fancy their chances here, and despite the injuries, it’s possible that the home fans will be unhappy when they leave Brewster Park tomorrow evening.
