Motherwell are in Champions League action at Fir Park tonight when they face Greek side Panathinaikos
Motherwell fans might be pinching themselves tonight as their team play Champions League football although the draw has not been kind to Stuart McCall’s team after being paired with Panathinaikos.
The Steelmen probably need to claim victory tonight to stand any chance of making further progress in the competition, although McCall is feeling pretty upbeat ahead of the challenge and bet365 offer odds of 7/2 that they beat their Greek opponents.
McCall told the official site: “Naturally we will be underdogs but we’ve managed to get our hands on a couple of DVDs from their pre-season and there is no doubt they have quality players in their ranks but we’ve just got to do our best in the home game and in an ideal world we’d have a clean sheet and maybe sneak a goal.
“It would be nice to still be in it when we go over there.
“Now it is the last week of preparation since our last pre-season game which has been focused on the match tomorrow. If you’re in a competition, any game, you want to try and win it.
“We are under no illusions over how difficult it will be but first and foremost we believe we have a chance and we’re going to give it our best shot.
“I sense the players are really looking forward to it and I just hope they do themselves justice.”
Pana are a 4/5 chance with
bet365 to claim victory although the visitors might be content to keep things tight against their Scottish opponents and it is tempting to back considering their game plan is to try and sneak a winning goal.
